MadPilot has moved

Posted on 23/08/2008 in News — No comments

MadPilot Productions has moved out of it's home office, and into a new shared office in Leederville!

Although it is common for freelancers and small businesses to work in managed offices, MadPilot has decided to get together a group of other small creatives to share offices with, with the intention of being able to share work — effectively forming a virtual company. We even have a name: 220s.

The rest of the team is Grant Bissett from Speak Interactive, Alex Pooley from Alex Poolely Design, Ben Giles from Spoon Media and Gary McGhee from Buzzware.

Our new address is

220 Carr Pl
Leederville WA 6007

so if you are in the neighbourhood, drop in and say hi!

88 Miles in the Business Review Weekly's top 100 Australian Web 2.0 Applications

Posted on 19/06/2008 in News — No comments

Business Review Weekly released it's list of top 100 Australian web 2.0 lists today and 88 Miles came in at number 58!

There are some pretty cool apps on the list, including big players like Atlassian and of course our good friends Saasu.com, Scouta and Norg Media.

Rounding up the Perth list we have The broth, Minit, Buzka, Gooruze.

Congratulations to everyone who made the list!

An online version of the list can be seen here.

MadPilot's new(ish) phone number

Posted on 06/06/2008 in News — No comments

Now that I've relocated back into my home office, I've decided to revert back to my old VoIP number: +61-8-6424-8234.

Although Skype was doing a perfectly good job at taking and making phone calls, the NetGear SPH101 Skype phone wasn't really up to the task (the battery life isn't that great and the call quality can leave a little to be desired) and I've got a perfectly good Cisco 7905 sitting here, which has much better voice clarity.

I'll redirect my Skype number to the “new” number in the interim to give you all a bit of time to update your records. I'll still leave the Skype phone around to Skype-to-Skype calls too I think.

It's a business, not a startup

The Beachhouse has had a steady stream of visitors recently, that have been involved with startups. It has been interesting how 88 Miles is considered a “Startup” which hasn't really been sitting well with me — 88 Miles is a product of MadPilot Productions, which isn't really a startup either.

Well, 37 Signals has just run a blog post, that explains why I have been uneasy. I'm not running a startup — I'm running a business. And I agree that people think in terms of startups, not businesses.

So if you are running a startup, make sure you are running a business too.
